thanks to the most awesome Michael Sweatman, aka disraeligears.co.uk, there is a scan of all 8 pages of the owner's manual, where you find out things like why third gear gets a number "3".
contrary to the scuttlebutt you hear on the 'net from People Who Only Like Novelty, this derailleur works very well.
the only downside is it's made of steel so it's a bit heavy, but it was original on the Victor so that's where it stays.
